This great private collection of Pies shirts gives us a chance to see more detail on some of the player issues in the years before replicas were popular. |
In less enlightened times, replicas were for kids....think ! This popular white shirt was the mid-eighties home - seen here with shorts in child size. |
To the right and going down, three consecutive aways under the McEwans sponsorship deal that ran through the good times of the 1989 - 1994 period. The number 8 at the bottom along with the league epaulettes shows it to be matchworn - by Mark Draper |
Two matchworn players shirts from the 1991-3 season. The most popular wearers of these numbers would have been Murphy and Paris. |
More matchworn player shirts - Strodder and Gary Mills, from the 1994-6 seasons |
Home and away from the 1998-99 season. The home belonged to Pies favourite Ian Richardson and is all the rarer for being issued at a time when players shirts were not sold off by the club. It's still safe to assume at this stage that the epaulettes stuck to the sleeves are proof enough of matchworn. Then, of course, there's that huge great yellow number stuck on the back as well..... |
Home and away shirts for the 1999-2000 season - the first year when shirts were named. Both these are matchworn, the home by ex-Man Utd man Clayton Blackmore and the away by player-manager-referee, Ian Richardson. |
