Local Hero - Steve Scoffham
Steve Scoffham signed for Notts on the 20th February 2004 therefore making the 2003/4 season his first season not just at Notts County but in league football as he signed from Gedling Town. The young forward (aged 20 at the time) didn't have a simple transfer as Gedling wouldn't allow him to leave without a fee of £5,000. Notts who were in a poor financial position could not afford the money. Scoff (as he has come to be known by Notts fans) was angry that Town would not allow him to leave in order for him to fulfil his dream to become a professional footballer. The Notts County Supporter's Trust paid the fee and he was able to complete the move. He made his debut 24 hours later at Meadow Lane against Stockport and his first goal didn't come much later - just two weeks later in his third game. So a famous goal celebration was born! The fans quickly grew to love Scoff as he scored again in the 4-1 victory over Blackpool again at Meadow Lane. Unfortunately on the final day of the season he broke his leg after coming on as a second half substitute against Oldham (in which Notts went on to win 2-1). This meant the striker would miss his first opportunity to participate in a professional footballer's pre-season. He didn't play again for almost a year.
Steve Scoffham's away shirt from his first season. Both his second and third shirts were sold by the club to fans. Not suprisingly he kept his own home kit.
