It wasn't exactly a fitting way to end your career - Notts beaten 3-0 at home by a well-organised Dangenham and Redbridge side.The away fans were still singing at the far end of the Jimmy Sirrel as the few remaining home supporters waited to say farewell to one of their last heroes - Michael Johnson. His departure seemed to epitomise the distance between the current team and those of the past; a distance already emphasised by the loss, earlier in the season, of Jack Wheeler and the great Jimmy Sirrel. The tears in the eyes of some fans were not suprising then, as they severed the final link with those far off days of success. |
