Season 2013-2014:The Kits
On the twentieth anniversary of the club's 'Barcode Battlers' shirt, Fila came up with another one. In the last year of their sponsorship deal, the manufacturers created the irregular stripes on the front with a plain back. Caterers 3663 were again involved - this time as the main advertiser of the home shirt. As with the women's kit, the away shirt had Pinnacle. Both had Jongleurs Comedy Club on the back which, like Vision Express, could certainly have given rise to some wry laughter given the teams performances in the early part of the season.
Sky Bet took over the League sponsorship so there were new epaulettes
New regulations were introduced this season relating to the restrictions of slogans on shirts. This meant no 'World's Oldest Football League Club' or 'The Magpies' or '1862' - all of which were printed on the replicas. This makes it much easier to spot player issue..Some of the unused player stock did appear for sale at the end of the season but these were the away kit and only three or four shirts sold with no names or numbers.
As has happened in more recent times, the club kept an eye on the player issue shirts and made sure they weren't given away, even at the end of the season.Naturally occasional ones were swopped for different sizes or damaged but generally there was an issue of two home and two away per player. At the end of the season they got to keep one and the sponsor another so except where there were auctions or the shirt was held back, there were two spare for sale. These then appeared in the club shop after the last game of the season. They started at £100 per shirt and there was a bumper crop with the re-emergence of the rare Liverpool shirt as well, which had a different sponsor (see separate page).
The women's team kit was due to be phased out as well after their summer break but there were no plans to sell those off.
Not one of the best kits maybe but with the club's better organisation and retention of the players kit, there was plenty to go round when thery did come up for sale ! There were a few loanees this year - Jack Grealish and Callum McGregor amongst the most popular. Their shirts were hived off for separate auction by Notts. The former raised three times the asking price of the others so it was definately worth doing.
Ronan Murray was signed from Ipswich by the manager Notts started the season with, Chris Kiwomya. Ironic then, that it was Derry who brought the youngster on with great effect, gave him confidence and left him to score some valuable goals in the Great Escape run.Such a leap forward made the lad very popular with the fans and earned him a one year extension to his contract at the end of the season.
A change in regulations banned the slogans Notts had put on their shirts for the past few years. This is the main way to tell the difference between player issue and replica and we've stuck an example of the latter here underneath so you can see the difference. They're actually better than the player issue for actually but if you're just a collector, at least you can identify the real thing....
Jimmy Spencer was signed by Shaun Derry and like Murray, he really came to the fore when the final push came in the Great Escape. The goal tally from both of them really helped out and when the gongs were handed out at the end of the season, it was no suprise to find he was rewarded with the no.9 shirt for the next campaign.
